Sun TV moved the Supreme Court on Thursday, challenging the attachment of assets estimated at Rs. 742 crore by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case.
It has approached the apex court following the Madras High Court’s refusal to entertain its petition in June on the ground that the matter was part of the 2G spectrum scam cases, in which case aggrieved persons should directly approach the apex court and not any of the High Courts.
The Madras High Court had given it the liberty to approach the Supreme Court even as Sun TV maintained that the assets have nothing to do with the 2G investigations. It maintained that the assets were acquired much before the agencies started their investigations into the Aircel-Maxis case.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice H.L. Dattu told senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Sun TV, that the plea would come up in due course for consideration.
