2 Sabarimala pilgrims from Tamil Nadu die of heart attack

A male and woman pilgrim, both aged 55 years, died on Wednesday.

Two pilgrims from Tamil Nadu died of heart attack at Sabarimala on Wednesday night, taking the death toll due to cardiac ailments at the pilgrim centre during the past one month to 15.

A 55-year old woman pilgrim, identified as Rugmini of Periyar Nagar, Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, died of heart attack at the Government Hospital at Sabarimala Sannidhanam on Wednesday night.

Another pilgrim, M. Panchaksharam, 55, of Ammanampakkam in Thiruvalluvar district of Tamil Nadu, also died of heart attack at the Cardiology Centre at Appachimedu at 11.35 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Thanchavur Damodaran, Ayyappa Seva Sanghom stretcher unit leader, Panchaksharam had suffered severe chest pain while climbing the Appachimedu hill. The Sanghom volunteers rushed him to the Cardiology Centre at Appachimedu where he died later, he said.

The Sanghom volunteers shifted both the bodies to Pampa, from where it was taken to Tamil Nadu later.
