A section of the farmers staged a walk-out from the monthly farmers grievances day meeting held on Thursday demanding payment of relief of Rs.25,000 per acre to those who lost their samba crop this year in the district.
However, the meeting continued with officials and other farmers attending. K.Baskaran, Collector, said that samba crop had been raised on 1,02,939 hectares and thaladi on 19,003 hectares in the district this year.
Under samba special package, bio fertilisers, zinc sulphate and gypsum have been distributed at 75 per cent subsidy.
For those who irrigated crops with diesel motors, diesel subsidy of Rs.600 is given per acre (maximum five acres).
HDPE flexible hose pipes are supplied to farmers at 100 percent subsidy if they had to take water from a water source far off from the field.
Samba harvest has been completed on 9800 hectares under pumpset irrigation.
An average yield of 4,750 kilos per hectare has been taken.
Crop insurance has been done to all farmers with payment of premium from Government.
A total of 206 tonnes of pulses i.e. black gram and green gram seeds are available at agriculture extension centres and distributed to farmers.
Fifty per cent subsidy is given for these seeds under village seed scheme and Rs.12 subsidy per kilo under National Food Security scheme.
There is a stock of 6,524 tonnes of urea, 2715 tonnes of di ammonium phosphate (DAP) and 3,005 tonnes of potash and 2,267 tonnes of complex fertilisers in all the Primary Agriculture Co-operative Credit Societies and private institutions.
