Winding up his over month-long poll campaign in the Tiruchi Lok Sabha constituency, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Tuesday went all out against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, saying she was only making announcements, and no concrete schemes had been implemented in the past three years.
The Chief Minister had failed to keep the promises she had made during the 2011 Assembly elections, he alleged, seeking votes at different places for the party candidate, Mu. Anbazhagan.
Mr. Stalin said Ms. Jayalalithaa had made announcements pertaining to different schemes under Rule No. 110 in the Assembly at least 300 times in the past three years. However, no scheme had been implemented.
Highlighting the power crisis, Mr. Stalin acknowledged that the problem had persisted during the DMK regime. But proper announcements were made on load-shedding through the media and other means. Ms. Jayalalithaa failed to solve the crisis in keeping with her promise in the run-up to the Assembly polls.
During his whirlwind tour of the State, the major issue he came across was that of drinking water shortage, he said. Instead of taking steps to end the shortage, the government was selling water in bottles. In no other State could one find the government selling water to its own people.
