A TASMAC retail outlet functioning in Panankadu village near the native place of Gandhian Sasi Perumal, was partly gutted when some unidentified miscreants set fire to it in the small hours of Monday.

The shop was functioning in a small room on the Salem-Elampillai road about 10 km from Salem city.

Police sources said the miscreants made a hole on the asbestos sheet which formed the top roof of the shop and threw some igniting material which led to the fire.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Suramangalam in the city rushed to the spot and put down the fire.

Liquor bottles stored in about 25 cartons were gutted in the incident. Kondalampatti police have registered a case and are investigating.
