The much-awaited rain brought cheer to scores of farmers across the district. Cotton and maize farmers were relieved as the latest spell of rain saved their standing crop while raising hopes for paddy and other crops.
The tanks in Kesamudram mandal, Ottivagu in Arpanapalli, Uracheruvu in Katrapalli, Peddacheruvu in Redlawada village breached while the Morancha vagu in Dharamaraopet in Bhupalpalli mandal and several rivulets in Mahabubabad were overflowing. Vehicular traffic between Mahabubabad and Thorrur was affected on Friday night.
A worried Santosh Reddy, sarpanch of Redlawada village, told The Hindu that the village tank breached, draining away all the water. “We have been waiting for the tank to be filled but in vain. It will be tough for us and even cattle in terms of drinking water, next summer ,” he said.
The district received very good amount of rain with an average of 16 mm the highest of 90.4 mm registered in Eturunagaram mandal. Of 51 mandals, 14 mandals received over 20 mm rainfall including, dry area mandals like Narmetta, Bachannapet, Jangaon and others.
Of the total rainfall from June to August of 655.5 mm rainfall, the district has so far received 442.1 mm with a deviation of minus 31.6 per cent.
Agricultural scientist R. Uma Reddy said the latest spell of rain was very important to farmers particularly cotton and maize. Those waiting for paddy plantation should do so with proper guidance.
Moderate in NalgondaNalgonda Staff Reporter adds: Nalgonda continued to receive heavy to moderate rains across the district on fifth consecutive day in the past 24 hours at 8.30 on Saturday.
Mothkur mandal received 71 mm rainfall, the highest, while Gundlapally , Nidamanoor, mm and Bommalaramaram have recorded 60mm, 50.6 mm and 50mm respectively. As many as 55 mandals out of 59 recorded rainfall during the past 24 hours. Groundwater table improves
Karimnagar Staff Reporter adds: The district received an average of 42 mm rainfall on Saturday.
Vemulawada and Sarangapur mandals received more than 10 cm rainfall. Almost all the mandals have received rainfall during the last two days.
The rains have given a fillip to the withering ID crops in the district. Besides, the groundwater table has also improved considerably.
The authorities are chalking out strategies to motivate the farmers, who have not taken up cultivation so far due to dry weather conditions, to go in for ID crops for fast returns with this rain.
However, the rains caused damage to the Singareni Collieries Company Limited with the decline in coal production in the open cast projects.
Copious in MedakSangareddy Staff Reporter adds: Medak district received huge rain fall for the past three days in almost all parts. According to officials the deficiency of rainfall has come down from 55 per cent to 43.8 per cent.
Pulkal mandal received 82.4 m.m. rain from Friday morning to Saturday morning. It has registered 21m.m rain on August 28 and 15.4 mm. on August 29.
Heavy rainfall was registered at Hatnoora (71m.m.), Kondapaka (68.4), Peddashankarampet (67.8), Siddipet (62.4), Sadashivapet (60), Mirdoddi (55.6), Andol (54.8), Kowdipally (50.2), Papannapet (44.6) and Toopran (40.2).
Villages cut off in AdilabadAdilabad Special Correspondent adds: Rains continued to lash parts of Adilabad district dislocating normal life and cutting off a dozen villages in Bejjur mandal where three streams overflowed. The fresh spell of rainfall helped reduce the deficit in rainfall. Kushinepallivagu, Rechinivagu and Kukdavagu streams in Bejjur mandal overflowed as it rained almost all through the day. The villages of Rechini, Kushinepalli, Kundarigaon, Sumeer, Somini, Mogavelli, Pata Mogavelli, Istarguda, Yerraguda, Nagepalli, Koyaguda and Bandelaguda could not be accessed during the day. annaram recorded almost 14 cm of rainfall until 8 a.m. on Saturday while Vemanpalli and Mamda mandal received over 12 cm. As many as 43 mandals show deficit in terms of rainfall received while the remaining nine have recorded scanty rainfall, according to official records.
Traffic woesKhammam Staff Reporter adds: After a short break , the traffic woes returned to haunt the people of around 25 villages in Wajedu mandal with a low-level causeway at Cheekupalli getting submerged by a swollen forest stream on Saturday morning.
Floods in a local stream, triggered by heavy rains in the forest fringe areas bordering Chhattisgarh, inundated the low-level causeway between Cheekupalli and Gummadidoddi villages in Wajedu mandal in the morning.
According to sources, vehicular movement between Cheekupalli and Perur main road, the vital road link on the inter-State border, came to a standstill following the road blockade caused by the flooding of the culvert. The project authorities lifted as many as 18 crest gates of the project and let out one lakh cusecs of excess water into the Godavari. Meanwhile, the water level in Munneru suddenly increased on Friday night following substantial inflows.
The authorities cautioned people living in low-lying areas along the banks of the river to remain vigilant.
