The activists of the CPI town unit laid siege to the municipal corporation office here on Monday in protest against the alleged failure of the municipal administration to address civic problems such as short supply of drinking water and ensuring proper sanitation in the town.

The protesters led by the party town secretary Mohd. Salam squatted at the entrance of the municipal corporation office here to press for their demands including appointment of a regular commissioner for the civic body.

Addressing the dharna, Mr Salam alleged that the municipal officials remained apathetic to the multitude of civic problems plaguing the residents of the town.

The inordinate delay in shifting the slaughter house from the residential area at Manikyanagar to the outskirts of the town, is taking a toll on the health of the residents of the areas surrounding the Kabela, he alleged.

The CPI leaders threatened to undertake a massive agitation soon if the authorities failed to address the civic woes of the denizens of the town.
