Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah had a breakfast meeting with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the latter’s residence here on Friday and the focus was on working together in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Mr. Shah had a one-on-one meeting with Mr. Naidu for about 30 minutes where they believed to have discussed the political situation at the national and at the State-level. Both of them deliberated on ways of strengthening the TDP-BJP relationship and promoting better coordination in both the States.
When the issue of coming by-elections to the Medak Lok Sabha constituency came up, Mr. Naidu reportedly agreed to leave it to the BJP. TDP and BJP share power at Centre and in Andhra Pradesh.
The meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of Mr. Shah’s proximity to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his assertion at a meeting of BJP workers on Thursday that he would like to see his party expand its footprint across the Southern states.
Mr. Shah, who is on his first visit to the city after assuming charge as president, is stated to showered praises on Telugus in US and observed that they topped among the Indians residing in that country, despite the bifurcation. He reportedly told Mr. Naidu that Mr Narendra Modi is planning to visit the US next month. He laughed away when a TDP leader enquired about Mr. Modi’s visa.
