Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu was accorded a warm welcome by the party rank and file on his maiden visit to Karimnagar on Tuesday after formation of separate Telangana state.
As soon as he arrived in a helicopter, the party district unit leaders greeted him and presented bouquets. Later, Mr. Naidu launched his procession by travelling in a bus. He garlanded the statue of TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao on the outskirts of Karimnagar and also social reformer Jyothibha Phule.
In the meantime, the police stepped up security arrangements by deploying forces all along the procession route from Ramakrishna Colony to Ambedkar Stadium to prevent any untoward incident.
Following the call given by the MRPS activists to obstruct the TDP meeting, the police took into custody several MRPS activists throughout the district. MRPS president Manda Krishna Madiga, who is camping in a hotel, was confined to his room. The police forces were closely monitoring the movement of visitors to the hotel and dispersing the mob on the roads in front of the hotel.
On the other hand, the TDP leaders have started arriving in large numbers for the party meeting at the Ambedkar Stadium. The town was painted in “yellow” with the party flags, banners and welcome arches and festoons.
