The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday declared results for the civil services examination 2015 and a 22-year-old Delhi girl has topped the exam in her first attempt.
Tina Dabi, a pass-out from Lady Shri Ram College, has scored the first rank in the highly-prestigious examination and has chosen to serve the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in Haryana cadre.
Key to success
An ecstatic Tina said: “I am very happy, I cannot express this feeling in words. I would say the key to my success has been patience, focus and discipline, with support from my family.”
Railway officer Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan from Jammu and Kashmir has got second rank, the third rank has also been held by a Delhi resident — Jasmeet Singh Sandhu, an Indian Revenue Service officer.
A total of 1,078 candidates, including 499 in the general category, 314 belonging to Other Backward Classes, 176 from Scheduled Castes and 89 from Scheduled Tribes, have been recommended for appointment to various Central government services, the UPSC said.
There are 172 other candidates in the waiting list.
The civil services examination is conducted by the UPSC annually in three stages — preliminary, mains and interview — to select candidates for the elite Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
“Appointment to the various Services will be made according to the number of vacancies available with due consideration to the provisions contained in the rules for the examination,” a statement from the UPSC read.
Marks will be updated by the commission on the official website of the UPSC within 15 days of declaration of the results.
Modi’s message
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated all the civil services aspirants and inspired them to do good work.
“Congrats to all those who cleared the Civil Services Exam. My good wishes as they commence a new & exciting phase of their lives,” Mr. Modi wrote on Twitter.
He also added a piece of advice for those who could not make it.
“To those who couldn’t clear — the disappointment is understandable but you must look ahead & work hard for your future endeavours. Good luck,” his other tweet read.
