The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday issued summons for the questioning of retired Air Marshal J.S. Gujral and retired Air Chief Marshal S.P. Tyagi, a prime accused in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal case.

“Mr. Gujral has been asked to appear before the investigating agency on Saturday, while Mr. Tyagi has been told to come on Monday,” said a CBI official.

The official said Mr. Gujral, who was earlier quizzed in 2013, had attended a meeting with the National Security Adviser in March 2005 related to the proposed acquisition of helicopters for VVIPs.

M.K. Narayanan, former Governor of West Bengal, was the National Security Adviser then. In June 2014, the CBI had recorded Mr. Narayanan’s witness statement in connection with the case. The then UPA government had earlier denied CBI permission to question him and the then Goa Governor B.V. Wanchoo, citing constitutional immunity. Mr. Narayanan later told the media that the decision at his level had been taken based on the policy of the previous NDA government.
