DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had given the impression of taking punitive action against her associate V.K. Sasikala and the latter's family members only to deceive the people of Tamil Nadu.
In a statement here, Mr. Karunanidhi said that after creating a sensation by announcing action against “wrong-doers” in the last nine months and expelling Ms. Sasikala from her residence, Ms. Jayalalithaa had now patched up with her and both of them were visiting temples together.
While the State was reeling under a severe power crisis and students were unable to prepare for their examinations, the State government was not paying any attention to the resolution of this problem, Mr. Karunanidhi said.
“Instead, it is keen on taking revenge on the opposition and filing cases against the opposition leaders,” he alleged.
Mr. Karunanidhi said though the budget presented in the Assembly sought to portray the DMK regime in bad light, claiming that law and order deteriorated in the last five years, the present situation in the State was far worse.
Mr. Karunanidhi said the AIADMK Government, driven by political vendetta, was destroying the good schemes implemented by the DMK regime and the decision to discard the newly constructed secretariat was a point in case.
He also dismissed the Transport Minister's criticism in the Assembly that no new buses were inducted during the DMK regime.
