Political culture

BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s comments in Chennai (“ >Jayalalithaa, Modi spar in T.N. , April 14), on the political culture of fights between the DMK and the AIADMK may be true to some extent, but something not uncommon in any democratic style of functioning.

His observation that the larger welfare of the people in the State was glossed over and forgotten is not borne out by facts. Statistics of development indices such as GDP growth and human development over the past 20 years show that Tamil Nadu is way ahead of Gujarat. Tamil Nadu’s model of development is definitely better than the much-hyped Modi model in Gujarat.
