The 12-hour stand-off at Gurdaspur once again puts Pakistan in a tight spot (July 28). The ray of hope that had emerged on the sidelines of Ufa is fast disappearing. The situation has worsened with repeated ceasefire violations. In neutralising the terrorists, the Punjab Police have shown exemplary courage and bravery. But were 12 hours required to neutralise just a few terrorists?

How long will the Indian authorities go on singing the same tune — that terrorists were on Indian soil, and had support from across the border? It is a fact that the ISI does not want peace to prevail. But how can elements inimical to India enter the country? It is our failure. How can we be lax in guarding our borders?
