Dutee Chand back on the track

March 29, 2015 02:58 am | Updated May 23, 2016 06:31 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Indian sprinter Dutee Chand, who was suspended by the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) for excessive testosterone to determine her eligibility for participating in women’s events, got some relief from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

According to her coach Nagapuri Ramesh, Dutee was given permission to participate in international events until June this year when the final verdict on the issue will be pronounced by the CAS.

“This is great news for Dutee, who is undergoing a traumatic phase in her life. We have to keep our fingers crossed until the final ruling is announced,” he told The Hindu over phone.

Dutee was unceremoniously pulled out from the Indian contingent for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and later she was diagnosed with ‘hyperandrogenism’ (excess of androgens, which in this case meant excessive testosterone) making her ineligible to take part in competitive events.
