Corey Anderson back with MI

May 05, 2015 03:13 am | Updated 03:13 am IST - Mumbai:

There was plenty of activity around New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson as Mumbai Indians went through with its optional practice session at the Wankhede Stadium here on Monday. MI plays Delhi Daredevils on Tuesday.

Ruled out of the IPL after he played the fourth match against Chennai Super Kings on April 17, because of a finger injury to his bottom hand, the left-handed all-rounder returned home to consult New Zealand Cricket for rehab.

New Zealand is scheduled to tour England from the first half of May.

MI, which had replaced Josh Hazelwood and Aaron Finch with Colin Munro and Ben Hilfenhaus, did not seek a replacement for Anderson, who returned here on Sunday night and was under the care of physical trainer Paul Chapman at the Wankhede.

After a few strong runs to check on his speed, Anderson sent down a number of balls and did not appear to be in any discomfort.

He was watched by MI bowling coach Shane Bond, head coach Ricky Ponting and Chapman.

“He’s being assessed,” said an MI spokesman.

MI may not make any immediate change with Lasith Malinga and Mitchell McGlenghan working up a good combination, Lendl Simmons contributing with the bat and Kieron Pollard too playing his part.

MI has won four matches and good results in the remaining five matches may see it advance to the playoffs and Anderson, should he be declared fit, would give options for MI skipper Rohit Sharma.
