Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar was delighted that he, along with Abhinav Mukund and Baba Aparajith, had been selected in the India ‘A’ squad to take on Australia ‘A’ in two four-day matches here from July 22.
Vijay Shankar said to The Hindu , “It is a great platform for us. I am really keen to perform.”
The pace-bowling all-rounder was excited that he would be working under India ‘A’ coach, the legendary Rahul Dravid. “He has been my role model and idol. I sought advice and tips from him when he came down here to play first division cricket some years back.”
While Mukund has represented the country in Tests and Aparajith has already played for India ‘A’, this will be the first time that Vijay Shankar will be a part of the India ‘A’ squad.
“My family, my father, mother, brother and grandparents, are very happy. I know this is a big opportunity for me,” he said.
The star performer for Tamil Nadu as it reached the Ranji Trophy final last season, Vijay Shankar said, “I can offer hundred per cent commitment to the side. My batting has improved. And I have worked hard on my bowling. I am now bowling in better areas and generating more pace.”
Vijay Shankar was adjudged TNCA’s Cricketer of the Year earlier this month.
