Jason Holder expressed disappointment with the West Indian batting effort after his side’s loss to India here on Friday.

“I thought the wicket was a good wicket to bat on, but we just didn’t play ourselves in when we batted. I thought initially we should have been looking at a score in excess of 270. The wicket was good enough to get that, we just didn’t,” he said.

Holder defended his decision to bat first, given how the pitch behaved in the first few overs.

“There are no regrets. If we had set up the game properly with the bat, it would have been a different game in the end.

“It’s tough trying to defend 182 on a good batting track with a quality batting line-up,” he said.

Jerome Taylor, Kemar Roach and Andre Russell all finished with two overs to spare but Holder opted to bowl Marlon Samuels and Dwayne Smith through to the end.

“At that stage our front end bowlers had given it their all. We were in a stage where we needed wickets, and we had two spells from each of our front-line bowlers. At the end they felt a little tired and just couldn’t get the job done, so I just felt that since Dwayne had gotten a wicket earlier, hopefully he could work some magic again.”
