We ran into a freight train today: Moles

March 05, 2015 01:26 am | Updated November 17, 2021 11:07 am IST - Perth:

A total of 75 balls remained to be bowled when David Warner was dismissed for 178 against Afghanistan here on Wednesday, but the Australian had no regrets on missing out on a double hundred.

“No, I am not disappointed at all. I went out there to try and score some runs, and I managed to do that,” he said.

Australian captain Michael Clarke was asked if an individual score of 300 was within the realms of possibility in one-day cricket.

“I can guarantee you I cannot make 300 in an ODI, but someone like Davey (Warner) or Chris Gayle or AB de Villiers, on a smaller ground, possibly could,” he smiled.

Andy Moles, the Afghanistan coach, admitted that his men had bowled well at the outset, but soon got carried away by the bounce at the WACA ground and dug the ball in too short.

“Dawlat Zadran did bowl well up front, but unfortunately the bowlers around him didn’t bowl well enough. We bowled very well at Warner for the first five to six overs.

“But, we didn’t persist with bowling in the same areas and unfortunately, we got short,” he said.

“We ran into a freight train today. We were out-skilled and bullied.”
