Asian Games football: Indian women maul Maldives

The Indian women’s football team opened its campaign at the Asian Games by mauling Maldives 15-0 on Sunday.

Winger Sasmita Malik and midfielder Kamala Devi struck five times while striker Bala Devi scored twice. Captain Bembem Devi, striker Prameshwori Devi and defender Ashalata Devi also scored a goal each in a completely lopsided Group ‘A’ match.

With this win, India is virtually through to quarterfinals in the women’s football competition which has begun a week before the opening ceremony of the Asian Games.
