FC Goa unveiled the official Adidas team kit, in the presence of their head coach Zico.
The Brazilian gave his insight into how India can benefit from the buzz generated for the franchise-based event internationally. “Football has to go through a process to be successful. This tournament has attracted a lot of foreign players and India has a lot to learn from them.”
The Goa franchise has already begun training at Tilak Maidan under the coach. “I know the expectations are high and I am motivated to take on this role.”
Ex-France and Arsenal striker Robert Pires, the marquee player in FC Goa line-up, talked about playing under a football legend. “My team boss here is a legend and there is a lot to learn from him. India is a good country, the food is spicy but I’m not here as a tourist. I’m here to win,” said the member of France’s 1998 World Cup winning squad. Aston Villa in 2011 was his previous club in England.
Virat Kohli, listed co-owner and brand ambassador, remarked: “The IPL gave Indian cricketers confidence, after training and performing against international players. Similarly, the ISL will enable our footballers to rub shoulders with experienced foreign players and develop their confidence about taking on anyone.” FC Goa co-owners Shrinivas Dempo, Dattraj Salgaocar and Venugopal Dhoot were present for the ceremonial kit launch, besides Founding Chairperson of Football Sports Development, Mrs Nita Ambani.
