Indian Super League: Goa beats Pune, climbs to fourth spot

FC Goa scored a goal in each half to down a fighting FC Pune City 2-0 and moved to the fourth spot in the Indian Super League here on Saturday.

Goa took the lead in the fifth minute through Romeo Fernandes and sealed victory in injury-time, courtesy substitute Miroslav Slepicka.

With this win, Goa has 12 points from 10 matches, the same as Mumbai City and Pune, but is fourth on goal difference.

The visitors were denied the equaliser by rival ’keeper Jan Seda, who made a couple of good saves. Pune was unlucky in the second half, a session which it dominated.

Fernandes was declared the man-of-the-match.

ATK appeals to AIFF Atletico de Kolkata, peeved at the assistant referee ruling out a stoppage-time goal against Kerala Blasters on Friday, has written to the AIFF with video evidence.

“We have submitted the copy of the video footage which leaves no doubt that the ball had crossed the goalline.

“This has not happened for the first time in the tournament. We’re awaiting a response,” said ATK co-owner Utsav Parekh.

The result: FC Goa 2 (Fernandes 5, Slepicka 90) bt FC Pune City 0.
