Former Indian women’s hockey captain Shashi Bala and her son died in a road accident in Punjab on Sunday.
The 45-year-old Shashi and her 15-year-old son Agrim Thakur were fatally injured in the accident which happened at the Ropar-Nawanshahr-Phagwara area.
Shashi, who made her international debut in 1987, was a member of the national team in the 1998 women’s World Cup in The Netherlands.
She captained the national side in the women’s World Cup qualifier in Harare (Zimbabwe) in 1997.
