IOC decision on squash put off

March 06, 2015 12:04 am | Updated 12:04 am IST - CHENNAI:

The International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s coordination committee has decided to postpone the final decision on the sports events to take place in Tokyo Olympics 2020 to August 2016 when the IOC will have its session during the Olympics.

Welcoming this development, N. Ramachandran, president, World Squash Federation (WSF), said: “The WSF fully supports the decision by John Coats, chairman of the IOC Coordination committee to increase the time needed to complete the evaluation of the possible sport/ sports that may be included in Tokyo,” he said.

Ramachandran added: “We have made it clear in our presentations that as a potential new candidate for inclusion, squash is ready. So time is less important than the knowledge that the flame of hope is still burning for squash.”
