The IOC wants Lance Armstrong to hand back his Olympic medal.

IOC vice-president Thomas Bach said Armstrong and the US Olympic Committee had been asked to return the bronze medal that the American won at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned for life from elite sports. The IOC also stripped him of his bronze medal.

Bach said there was no legal dispute involved.

Bach said “What we are lacking sadly but I hope we can still come to the result is just getting back the medal. But legally the case for the IOC is closed.”
