Defending champion Laxman Rawat of PSPB outplayed India No. 5 Faisal Khan of Indian Railways 5-1 to emerge the champion of the Chinthamani & D. Shashikhant memorial open snooker tournament at the S.S. Sports Academy here on Sunday.

Faisal, who enjoyed the highest break of 134 in the opener, was not at his usual best. Laxman cashed in on the chance and played a steady game right through. He showed consistency in potting on his way to title win. The PSPB star went home richer by Rs. 70,000, while Faisal had to rest content with Rs. 40,000.

The results (final): Laxman Rawat (PSPB) bt Faisal Khan (RSPB) 5-1; Semifinals: Faisal bt Himansu Jain (GAIL) 5-1; Rawat bt Varun Kumar (SIAA) 5-4.

Easy for Suryabala CC

Suryabala CC registered a four-wicket win over Jolly Rovers CC in the TNCA-CDCA first division league on Sunday.

I div.: Jolly Rovers CC 131 in 48.5 overs lost to Suryabala CC 132 for six in 21.5 overs (R. Venkatesh 38, T. Veeramani 31).

State-level volleyball

Rural Education and Sports Development Foundation will organise a State-level volleyball tournament on the occasion of Women’s Day at the Corporation Sports Complex courts from March 5 to 8.

Jeppiaar EC, Panimalar EC, Vels University (from Chennai), PSGR Krishnammal, Avinashilingam Deemed University and Karunya University (from Coimbatore) are the teams that have confirmed participation.
