The Asian Rugby 7s’ Olympic pre-qualifiers for men and women will be held in the city on March 7 and 8 at the Nehru Stadium.
The men’s section will see five sides, including India, take part and the women’s will have six.
The winner of the tournament qualifies for the Asian Olympic qualifiers.
The Rugby 7s is the shorter form of the Rugby Union game, with seven players on each side playing two halves of seven minutes each. The game will make its debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
In the men’s section, India will face off against Iran, Laos, UAE and Uzbekistan while in the women’s draw the host team will compete against the Philippines, South Korea, Guam, Iran and Uzbekistan.
The pre-qualifier event will be played on a round-robin-cum-knockout format, with the finals to be held on Sunday.
