India’s leading shuttler Saina Nehwal climbed a place to be ranked No. 5 in women’s singles in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday.

Back-to-back quarterfinal appearances at Denmark and French Open this month, where she lost to Chinese Shixian Wang both times, have helped her re-enter the top 5 rankings. Meanwhile, compatriot P.V. Sindhu retained her No.10 position.

A return back to form has seen men’s singles shuttler Parupalli Kashyap climb back into the top 20 at No.17. A semi-final show in Denmark followed by a last eight appearance in France elevated Kashyap four places.

His friend and compatriot Kidambi Srikanth maintains his position as the top ranked Indian male shuttler at No.16.

Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa have also re-entered the top 20 in women’s doubles at No.20.

There is no Indian representation in the top-25 of men’s and mixed doubles.
