Pune racing season from July 23

The Pune Monsoon racing season will be held from July 23 to October 25, according to the RWITC prospectus.

The prize money for the 27-day season will be around Rs 12 to 13 crores. It is probably the highest prize money for any monsoon racing season in the country.

This season will feature a number of million and graded races for each category. The two Grade I races — Nanoli Stud Pune Derby and the Indian St. Leger, the last of the Indian Classics, give the season an added dimension.

Important races: Pune Bookmakers’ Association Turf Club Trophy (Aug. 9), PRA Independence Million (Aug. 15), Eve Champion Trophy (Aug. 16), F.D.Wadia Trophy (Aug. 23), Idar Gold Trophy (Sept. 12), Southern Command Gold Trophy (Sept. 13), S.A.Poonawalla Multi-Million (Sept. 20), Indian St. Leger (Sept. 27), Nanoli Stud Pune Derby (Oct. 11), General Rajendrasinhji Million and Irish Thoroughbred Marketing & Goffs R.W.I.T.C Ltd Gold Cup (Oct. 25).

Racing dates:  July 23 and 24. Aug. 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30. Sept. 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27. Oct. 3, 10, 11, 16, 17, 24 and 25.
