RWITC to introduce day-night racing

The Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) will be introducing day-night racing on a trial basis on April 18 and 19 during the ongoing season.

Mr. K.N. Dhunjibhoy, Chairman, RWITC, said that “We needed some innovative idea to increase the falling attendance and make this sport more popular. We have called for tenders from the lighting equipment manufacturers and suppliers which have to be finalised, while the Bajaj Electricals has agreed to assist us in arranging the infrastructure needed for the two days racing (April 18 & 19) on a trial basis.”

He also said that “the budget for the lighting project would be around Rs. 9 crore. The races will begin around 4.30 p.m. and will end by 8 p.m., mostly the last three races would be held under lights.”
