Ankita Raina qualified for the main draw of the Asia Pacific Australian Open wild card play-off tennis tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Makoto Ninomiya of Japan in the second and final qualifying round in Shenzhen, China, on Tuesday. She will play second-seeded Eri Hozumi of Japan in the opening round.
In the men’s section, Yuki Bhambri plays Wesley Whitehouse in the first round of the main draw.
Purav Raja, who came through the qualifiers, faces the top-seeded Hiroki Moriya of Japan.
In doubles, Purav and the Philippines’ Ruben Gonzales are second seeded, and have been given a bye into the quarterfinals.
Bhambri, who had won the doubles wild card with Michael Venus of New Zealand last year, and Zhe Li of China are seeded No.3, and have also been given a first-round bye.
