Djokovic and Kvitova move up

Novak Djokovic maintained his 100 per cent record at the ATP/WTA China Open on Wednesday overcoming late resistance from Vasek Pospisil to win 6-3, 7-5, while Petra Kvitova powered through her women’s singles match.

In the women’s competition, world No. 3 Kvitova opened her campaign with a win, defeating home-crowd favourite Peng Shuai 6-4, 6-2.

Women: Second round: Samantha Stosur bt Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 7-6(9); Petra Kvitova bt Shuai Peng 6-4, 6-2; Maria Sharapova bt Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1, 7-6(3); Alize Cornet bt Lauren Davis 6-2, 6-1.
