Prerna Bhambri in quarterfinals

Qualifier Prerna Bhambri beat seventh seed Kyoka Okamura of Japan 6-1, 1-6, 10-5 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Tin Hau, Hong Kong, on Thursday.

In the quarterfinals, Prerna will face Ji-Hee Choi of Korea who beat third seed Harriet Dart of Britain.

However, Rishika Sunkara failed to drive home the advantage after a 3-0 lead in the third set, as she lost the first round to Pei-Chi Lee of Chinese Taipei in the third set tie-break.

The results: 42,500 Euros Challenger, Recanati, Italy: Doubles (quarterfinals): Ken Skupski (GBr) & Divij Sharan bt Salvatore Caruso & Stefano Napolitano (Ita) 7-6(4), 6-2.

$50,000 Challenger, Binghamton, US: Singles (first round): Mitchell Krueger (US) bt Saketh Myneni 6-4, 6-3.

$15,000 ITF, Shaanxi, China: Doubles (semifinals): Zhe Li (Chn) & Sriram Balaji bt Hiroki Kondo & Kento Takeuchi (Jpn) 6-1, 6-2.

$10,000 ITF, Godfrey, US: Singles (first round): Sameer Kumar (US) bt Christopher Marquis 6-2, 6-2. Doubles (pre-quarterfinals): Jordi Arconada (Arg) & Dominic Cotrone (US) bt Mico Santiago (US) & Ankit Chopra 6-3, 7-5.
