Their love was no less dramatic than a plot of a Hindi movie. It's 'end' turned out to be equally dramatic. A couple -- the girl is Muslim, boy a converted Christian -- which slashed each other's throats on Wednesday near Taj Mahal for being not allowed by their families to get married, "break up" on Thursday in the hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
Rajveer Singh, a 25 years old resident of Dehradun and Shabnam Ali a resident of Karbala area in Agra who were frustrated at their families refusal to accept their relationship, attempted suicide near the external monument of love on Wednesday. They slashed each other's throat with blades and were lying in a pool of blood when the guards saw them and rushed them to hospital.
Their love apparently couldn't withstand the pressure of police interrogation. Now they "don't want to stay with each other."
It was the question of who brought blades in the high security area which triggered the 'break up.'
Admitted in two separate wards of an Agra hospital, the lovers refused to stay together once police started interrogating them. Both of them started fighting and blaming each other. The thought of registration of a case under suicide attempt also brought them to fight with each other.
Shabnam refused to take responsibility and said that she knew that guards check belongings during entry and hence she was not the one who brought the blades. Rajveer on the other hand blamed her for the situation.
He alleged that that her father was pressurising to convert to Islam if he wanted to marry her. Shabnam rejected the allegation and said that he himself had proposed to neutralise her family's opposition to their match. The heated exchange led to both of them staying in two different room, hours after their attempted to die together.
"It's all a lie that my father wanted him to convert. He himself had suggested becoming a Muslim because he professed love for me to the extent that religion for him doesn't matter," Shabnam told the police.
